💬 The Chat Follows You into the Meeting - Seamless Transition Between Google Chat and Meet

TL;DR: Google is tying Google Chat and Google Meet even closer together. When you start a video meeting directly from a chat (DM or group), the conversation will now "follow along" into the meeting. This means you see the chat history inside the meeting, and everything written during the meeting is saved back to the original chat thread when you hang up. Nothing is lost. No double work.
No More Fragmented Information
Previously, the meeting chat and the regular chat lived completely separate lives. Information shared during a video meeting often vanished into thin air when the window was closed. Conversely, you had to copy and paste links from the chat to bring them into the meeting.
With the new feature, Google treats the meeting as a natural extension of the chat, rather than a separate event.
How It Works in Practice
This happens automatically when you initiate the call from the right place.
🔄 Before the meeting: You and a colleague are discussing a project in Google Chat. You realize you need to talk. You click the video camera in the chat.
📞 During the meeting: Inside the Meet window, you now see your previous text conversation. Sending a link or a note in the meeting chat? It appears immediately.
✅ After the meeting: When you hang up, everything you wrote during the call remains in your regular chat thread in Google Chat.
Why Is This Important for Collaboration?
It is about maintaining context without having to switch tools.
Better documentation: Decisions or links shared during the verbal meeting are automatically saved in the project chat. No one needs to write a separate email afterwards.
Smoother flow: You avoid jumping between tabs to find "that link you sent five minutes ago."
Clear history: It becomes easy for people who missed the meeting to go back in the chat and see what was shared, even if they weren't in the call.
Who Gets Access?
The feature is rolling out to all Google Workspace customers. It doesn't matter if you are a small company with Business Starter or a large organization with Enterprise Plus. This seamless integration becomes standard for everyone.
