🔐 Set Expiration Dates for Shared Files and Folders - Enhanced Security in Drive

TL;DR: Google is updating the sharing function in Drive. Now you can set an automatic expiration date for access to both files and folders. This applies when you share with people who have "Viewer," "Commenter," or "Editor" permissions. This means you no longer need to remember to manually remove permissions when a collaboration is over.

No More "Ghost Permissions"

We constantly share documents and folders. Often it is for temporary needs, like a project lasting two weeks or a quote that needs reviewing. The risk is high that external parties keep access long after they actually need it.

With the new update, you can be proactive. You decide already at the moment of sharing how long the access should last.

How It Works

The feature is built directly into the standard "Share" box in Google Drive.

• 📅 Set a date: When you add a person, you can click on the settings for their permission and select "Add expiration date."

• 🔄 Flexible control: You can set this for both new and existing users. It works whether you give them rights to edit, comment, or just read.

• 👋 Automatic removal: When the date passes, the user's access is removed immediately. You don't need to lift a finger.
